Can't Sean just go on the pump?

One year and some change later, Sean is on an ANIMAS pump! It's water-proof up to 12 feet... One common misunderstanding is that the pump helps his blood sugar. The pump only administers insulin for three days at a time (less needles), tells us how much insulin is working in his system hourly, and "counts" for us. It does not control blood sugar or tell us his blood sugar. Sean's lows and highs and complications have had nothing to do with inproper nutrition, miscalculations, responsibility, etc. it's just the nature of the beast with autoimmune type 1. I'd say he catches 30-40% of his lows. But never his highs. And of course he doesn't wake if out of range. We look forward to the "ease" of the pump- the insurance will cover it! For now we have a tight grip as we know his fast acting (meal time) insulin peaks by 1.5 hours, but for example. When he goes to bed with a nice carb/protein meal to get into the good range for sleep, and he has his nighttime insulin (or hasn't even gotten it yet) then drops hours later---there's not always rhyme or reason. And pump or no pump this is diabetes...

How do I know where my donation is going?

All donation buttons on this website are linked to Canine Hope for Diabetics. One you click into one and begin the donation process, you may send a message in the COMMENT BOX or in "Send Recipient Instructions" and put "Sean Booth" there. You will receive confirmation of the donation, and WE receive notice within 24 hours of every donation made to benefit Sean on his journey. We also receive monthly statements. You may MAIL your donation directly to them, and we will receive an email about it once received, as well.

The "How to Help" page has details and links.

When you you get your dog?

We have been along just a ways in this journey, and will receive what is called a "finished dog". It will take 18-24 months until our pup is ready, fully public access certified, etc to come be a part of our family!

Why $15,000?

Our service dog will be no different from any other protected and recognized by the ADA (American Disabilities Act). He will have extensive training, able to hunt Sean's meter, retrieve juice, open the fridge, etc. Every day, every hour our pup is in training, and we are providing the fees and cost for this elite animal!

Is this tax deductible?

YES! Donations even given to US as a family are immediately  passed on to Canine Hope- We can get a receipt for your donation- or, as noted before, you can send a Paypal donation or check directly.
